"Beautiful Day" Song Lyrics by U2
"Beautiful Day" was the lead single from U2's year 2000 'comeback' album, All That You Can't Leave Behind.

It was a commercial success and is one of U2's biggest hits to date. It was their fourth #1 single in the UK. This album was considered a come back for U2 after what some critics felt was a poor effort with Pop and to a lesser extent, Zooropa.

Of the album's lyrics themselves, Adam Clayton said:

"Bono's lyrics this time, in a sense, they're less poetic, less romantic and more real. To me they're much more about where he's coming from and what he's dealing with. I think this record has a great tenderness. And I'm sure it addresses the way he feels about the commitment to the band and to his family, to his children and Ali. "

If we go deeper into the meaning, we find U2's "Beautiful Day" is a powerful anthem about finding hope and beauty even in the face of loss and adversity.

Beneath its uplifting melody, the song's lyrics delve into the complexities of life's imperfections. The narrator acknowledges hardships—“You’re out of luck / And the reason that you had to care”—yet chooses to focus on the wonder of being alive, capturing a sense of gratitude despite things not going as planned.

The recurring phrase "It’s a beautiful day" becomes an assertion of resilience, a reminder to look beyond material struggles and appreciate the simple, profound moments of existence. The song’s chorus is triumphant, but the verses are grounded, reflecting on a reality where things have been lost—echoed in lines like "After the flood, all the colors came out." The flood symbolizes both personal and societal struggles, but it's through these challenges that a renewed sense of wonder emerges.

The world thought so to and it became a source of comfort for many American's following 911.

"Beautiful Day" Song Lyrics by U2

The heart is a bloom
Shoots up through the stony ground
But there's no room
No space to rent in this town
You're out of luck
And the reason that you had to care
The traffic is stuck
And you're not moving anywhere
You thought you'd found a friend
To take you out of this place
Always
Someone you could lend a hand
In return for grace
Always

It's a beautiful day
Day
The sky falls and you feel like
Day
It's a beautiful day
Day
Don't let it get away
Day

You're on the road
But you've got no destination
You're in the mud
In the maze of her imagination
You love this town
Even if that doesn't ring true
You've been all over
And it's been all over you
Always

It's a beautiful day
Day
Don't let it get away
Day
It's a beautiful day
Day, day
Touch me
Take me to that other place
Teach me
I know I'm not a hopeless case

See the world in green and blue
See China right in front of you
See the canyons broken by clouds
See the tuna fleets clearing the sea out
See the Bedouin fires at night
See the oil fields at first light and
See the bird with a leaf in her mouth
After the flood all the colours came out

Day, day

It was a beautiful day
Day
Don't let it get away
Day
Beautiful day
Day, day

Touch me
Day
Take me to that other place
Day
Reach me
Day
I know I'm not a hopeless case
Day

What you don't have you don't need it now
What you don't know you can feel somehow
What you don't have you don't need it now
Don't need it now
It was a beautiful day
Day

It's warm in the sun, I reach to the sun
